The Fallacy of Clinton Bashing

Wed Jan 23, 2008 at 02:48:17 PM PDT

I am amazed at the political ineptitude of lefties as they piss all over the 8 good years of Clinton.  The nation was not fully restored from the Republican disaster of the 80's but there was a reprieve from right winged stupidity.  All the moonbats are screeching and whining as usual that it wasn't sufficient. There wasn't a Constitutional amendment enforcing Roe V Wade for all eternity; no council of females directing the economic and moral development of the communities. We did not have legislation creating special tax treatmrnt for those attending a kumbaya sing-in.

How about a little stroll down Reality Avenue:

  1. If Ross Perot had not participated in the elections of 1992 and 1996 or if Bill Clinton had not embraced NAFTA then Bill Clinton would not have been (P)resident and the Republicans would have continued to own the White House.  It may be fair to speculate thet such an outcome would have been better, but I am not of that opinion.
  1. According to the Republicans Bill Clinton passed the "Largest Tax Increase in History" in 1993.  Yet according to latter day moonbats, he created a "tax cut for the rich".
  1. The tax increase of 1993 along with the "Gays in the Military" lost the Congress in 1994 and Clinton was cut off at the knees.  With National Health Insurance and "Gays in the Military" Clinton attempted to honor the left much too quickly and too far and thus lost the Congress and was then fighting for his political life.
  1. In 1995 as the Repukes took control Bill Clinton attempted to prevent a disaster:

On December 20, 1995, President Clinton vetoed the Public Securities Litigation Reform Act, which would have restricted lawsuits against corporation accused of securities fraud. In his veto message, Clinton presciently noted that while he supported the notion of reducing frivolous lawsuits: "I am not, however, willing to sign legislation that will have the effect of closing the courthouse door on investors who have legitimate claims. Those who are the victims of fraud should have recourse in our courts. Our markets are as strong and effective as they are because they operate -- and are seen to operate -- with integrity. I believe that this bill, as modified in conference, could erode this crucial basis of our markets' strength." The GOP Congress overrode Clinton's veto.

This little jewel is what allowed corporate managers to mischaracterize earnings and create a stock price bubble.

This veto set the tone for the rest of the Clinton (P)residency.  The Senate at that point was R-52, D-48.  Then in 1997 the Senate was R-55, D-45 when Clinton rolled on the capital gains tax cuts.  I see people here claiming that Clinton could have vetoed these Gingrich created tax cuts.  The utter naivety essential to such a belief is astounding.  The tax increase of 1993 had to be accomplished by Al Gore casting a tie breaker vote on a filibuster proof appropriations bill, and some Senators lost their seats for it.  There is no way in political hell that Clinton could have vetoed this Republican tax cut.

There have been at least two diaries concerning the facts of "the economy" and of taxes and other internal affairs of the nation that point out the role of Congress as opposed to the (P)resident.  We do not (s)elect a king.  We (s)elect the "executive" and it is the job of the "executive" to "execute" the laws created by the Congress. (a civics lesson for us).  The only Clinton zings that I see of any significance were the tax cut of 1997 and the repeal of Glass Steagal. I will speculate that if Bill Clinton had attempted a veto of the 97  tax cut legislation then Al Gore would have lost the popular vote in 2000 by a significant margin.  And Glass Steagall had already been emasculated by the Fed before it was repealed.

The Republicans do not need the "bully pulpit".  They have  the right wing noise machine, the MSM, and the moonbats to castrate any liberal moves of the Democratic Party. I CAN fight the right and kick their ass.  But the moonbats just keep shooting everyone in the foot.
